GreenWeek

As part of the EU Green Week 2016, organised by the European Commission there have bene 6 information sessions held on 1 June. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development hosted one of the sessions, Green technology transfer: a key ingredient for a sustainable growth.

A number of technologies with significant environmental benefits currently still have a low market penetration in many regions. Stimulating demand for such measures and bringing suppliers of such technologies and equipment into new markets is very important and helps promote sustainable growth.

The session has presented different initiatives, such as FINTECC, introducing such innovative climate technologies across a number of countries. These include energy, materials and water efficiency technologies as well as renewable energy technologies. There is also a need for capacity building and support to change behaviour of consumers as well as building linkages with suppliers. Participants have been able to discuss with EBRD representatives how to actively develop and implement such initiatives successfully.

Speakers from the EBRD included:

  • Terry McCallion, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change team
  • Astrid Motta, Principal, Energy Efficiency and Climate Change team
